Corporate Social Responsibility

Agricultural Bank of China Corporate Social Responsibility Report 2019 (the Report) is the 13th issued since 2007. Contents and structure of the Report refer to and is standardized to The Global Reporting Initiative Sustainability Report Standards, The Supplementary Guidance for the Financial Services Industry, and International Standard Organization’s (ISO 26000) Guidance on Social Responsibility. It also complies with social responsibility guidance requirements of the China Insurance and Banking Regulatory Commission, the China Banking Association, the Shanghai Stock Exchange, and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
　The Report, it is divided into six major sections, which are Message from the Leaders, About Us, Responsibility Practices, CSR Honors and Awards, Responsibility Commitments, and Appendix. Responsibility Practices is the most important part of the Report, it includes seven major areas, which are contributing to poverty alleviation, facilitating rural revitalization, serving the real economy, promoting the practice on creating a beautiful China, providing inclusive services, promoting staff development, and contributing to creating happy lives. The Report presents the Bank’s achievements in responsibility practices in 2019, so as to show that the Bank adheres to the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as guidance, conscientiously implements on the decisions and deployment of the CPC Central Committee, adheres to Party building as lead, firmly establishes new development concepts, and demonstrates the responsibility of a large state-owned bank in promoting economic transformation and upgrading, maintaining financial security and stability, and serving people's livelihoods. Each chapter highlights responsibility practices through key performance data and focus topics, such as establishing “The Poverty Alleviation E-Mall” to support consumption-based poverty alleviation, digital transformation in serving “Sannong”, solving financing difficulties for SMEs by creating more online financial products, targeting ecological protection of the Yellow River to serve the people and benefit the local, building “Smart + Scenarios” financial service ecology, etc.
　The cover of The Report combines a jade sculpture with graphic designs, creating a very unique Chinese style, which embodies the Bank’s deep roots in traditional culture, and the firmly held beliefs in forging ahead through trials and tribulations, in craftsmanship, and in fulfilling our social responsibilities.

The Report refers to and is standardized to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), The Supplementary Guidance for the Financial Services Industry, International Standard Organization’s (ISO 26000) Guidance on Social Responsibility, and The Hong Kong Stock Exchange Guidelines. It benchmarks United Nations’sustainable development goals, and complies with social responsibility information disclosure requirements of the China Insurance and Banking Regulatory Commission, the China Banking Association, and the Shanghai Stock Exchange. It gives answers to the stakeholders’ issues of concern, truly and accurately reflects the key points and bright points of the Bank’s annual social responsibility work.
  The Report, it is divided into 8 major sections, which are Message from the Chairman, Feature: Marching Forward with the Reform and Opening up, About Us, Responsibility Map, Responsibility Practices, CSR Honors and Awards, Responsibility Commitments, and Appendix. The special feature demonstrates the responsibilities that the Bank has shouldered since it’s reestablishment in 1979. Responsibility practices are the key, and the Report demonstrates such practices in its seven major chapters, which include Supporting Poverty Alleviation with Solidarity, Serving Rural Revitalization with Devoted Mission, Supporting Real Economy with Heart, Building a Beautiful China with Persistence, Providing Quality Services with Sincerety, Enhancing Employee Happiness with Joint Hands, and Promoting Social Harmony with Responsibility. The Report gives prominence to the Bank's resolute implementation of the Central Committee's policy deployments, and its full efforts in supporting poverty alleviation, unswervingly preventing and controlling financial risks, actively building a leading bank in green financing, serving major national strategies, supporting private and small and micro enterprises, innovating financial services, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of consumers, and participating in social welfare activities.
  The cover of The Report uses the design of traditional Chinese window frames, the readers can look through the three windows to discover the Report's main responsibility themes. The content of the report uses brightly colored, eye-catching photographs to give prominence to the major themes. With inserted QR codes for short films and audio case files, the readers can have a digitally enhanced interactive reading experience.

The Report refers to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange guidelines, benchmarks United Nations' sustainable development goals, and complies with social responsibility information disclosure requirements of the China Banking Regulatory Commission, the China Banking Association, and the Shanghai Stock Exchange. It gives answers to the stakeholders' issues of concern, truly and accurately reflects the key points and bright points of the Bank's annual social responsibility work.
  The Report is divided into 8 major parts, which are Message from the Chairman and the President, About Us, Responsibility Practices, Responsibility Map, Branch Case Studies, CSR Honors and Awards, Responsibility Commitments, and Appendix. Responsibility Practices includes 6 major parts, which are: A National Team to Lead the Financial Service for "Sannong", A Major Force to Support National Welfare, A Leader to Promote Ecological Progress, A Pioneer to Provide Quality Service, A Guide to Lead Employee Career Paths, A Pioneer to Facilitate Social Harmony. Through social responsibility data and focused topics, the Report gives emphasis to the Bank's responsibility practices, such as ABC's No. 1 Project making innovations to serve "Sannong", supporting supply-side structural reform, defending against wire fraud, etc. It also focuses on showing ABC's unique social responsibility practices, such as establishing inclusive financing development structure, innovating green financial products, exploring "Smart Finance" Services, etc.
  A fresh and elegant hand-drawn watercolor style is used throughout The Report, which resonates with ABC's brand culture of "Building a Beautiful China". The Report's contents have explored the use of visual propagation methods, specifically, QR codes were inserted, which lead to links with a combination of written language with video and/or audio files, this can give the readers a more full and fluent reading experience.

In 2016, ABC has been always concerned with and dedicated to the country, and demonstrated a State-owned bank shouldering responsibilities by fully supporting the real economy, actively serving the national strategy and heartily giving back to the community, while creating more value for shareholders and society. For the 65 years since its establishment, ABC has, by upholding the “spirit of craftsmanship” which always calls for excellence in the course of serving “Sannong”, the economy and the general public, forged the political responsibility for carrying out strict governance of the Bank, the economic responsibility for value creation, and the social responsibility of promoting well-being of society, to contribute to the realization of the great rejuvenation of China.

Developmental sustainability needs to be based on responsibility, as building a long-lasting corporation needs to be based on bearing in mind people’s well being. In 2015, facing numerous difficulties and challenges in the domestic and international economic environment, ABC resolutely implemented the Central Committee and State Council's policy decisions and regulatory requirements, calmly dealt with complex situations, and actively guarded against and dissolved risks. As a large state-owned commercial bank in support of “Sannong” (agriculture, rural areas and farmers) development, ABC also innovated service means, contributed to poverty reduction, serving the real economy, strengthening ecological protection and improving people's livelihood.
